They say an idle mind is the devil’s workshop. That is why you need to find things to do when you’re bored. Staying active keeps you upbeat and in a good mood. This way, you get to stay productive even the next day.
When you start a lazy trend, breaking away from it is difficult because the brain gets used to doing nothing. However, if you’re proactive, your brain will always find something to do.
Boredom is the worst because it drains the life out of you. You need to devise methods to keep yourself busy at all times. This, however, does not mean that you should keep busy even when you’re exhausted. Resting is very important because I keep you refreshed, and you get to recharge.
Make sure that the activities you take part in when you’re bored are productive. The last thing you want is to take up activities that bring more harm than good.

This is an excellent way of spending your free time. If you don’t have a hard copy book, you can always get a softcopy one online. There are so many books out there that are just waiting to be opened.
You can choose to go to the library so that you have easy access to an unlimited number of books. Whether you’re into biographies or fiction books, there’s always something out there for you.
- Look through Old Things
Do you have old pictures that you’ve not seen in a while? Why not look through them and live those memories again for a moment. Other old things to look through include notes and letters you kept safely for future reference. It could be notes you shared with a friend or a romantic partner. Rekindling memories when you’re bored is an excellent way of engaging your mind.
- Go online shopping
I know right! Online shopping is just the best because you get to look through so many options in the comfort of your home. If there’s something you’ve always wanted to purchase, this is your opportunity to compare prices and find out which online stores offer the best prices.
- Listen to music
Music is very calming, and it engages the mind when you’re bored. Take your time to listen to the lyrics, so you enjoy the music fully.
- Do your chores
Sometimes you allow yourself to suffer through boredom when you can simply do your chores..
Taking naps during the day is actually very healthy. Set an alarm and sleep for no more than two hours. You’ll wake up feeling refreshed and ready to get busy.
- Hang out with friends
If you have nothing to do, you should spend time with friends you haven’t seen in a while.
- Go outside
Have you stepped out today? If not, you probably should. Maybe all your body needs is a little sunlight.
Use this opportunity to learn something new. Type anything into the search engine and read the first thing that comes to mind.
- Start a movie
You can binge-watch content on YouTube or Netflix, but don’t overdo it.
- Have a water gun fight

- Start a collection
The concentration you need to start a collection of anything will kill the boredom you’re feeling.

- Start a journal
Journaling is such a cathartic activity. Writing down your feelings is fulfilling and eye-opening.
- Do homework
If everything else fails, take out your homework book and work on your assignments. It’s time to say to yourself, “Just do my homework now!”.
There is so much to do during your free time, so do not allow yourself to be bored. Take up one of the activities listed above to ensure you have a productive day. Remember, an idle mind is the devil’s workshop.
